Second Lieutenant in memoriam
Pavel MAUER
- Born 1978 in Brno
- Member of 601st Special Forces Group, Czech Army
- In March 2003 selected for Enduring Freedom mission in Kuwait
- Deployed to Iraq during operations in Basra and securing the Czech Embassy in Baghdad
- On 8 May 2003, on his way back to Basra, seriously wounded
- 22 May 2003 died of his injuries at the Central Military Hospital in Prague
- Promoted to the rank of second lieutenant in memoriam
- Awarded the Meritorious Cross of the Ministry of Defence of the Czech Republic, 1st degree
- Buried at the Central Cemetery in Brno
Pavel was professional in every way, always ready to give his best performance. As a person and a friend, he was of a pure nature. Where others showed dissatisfaction, he always said “It coud get worst”. His humility was incredible. A humble, selfless, reliable guy who didn’t talk too much. He believed that actions speak for themselves. He wanted to serve the Czech Republic and be good at it.
